New Anti-Stigma Website

Recently,AstraZeneca kicked-off a partnership with The Jed Foundation, the leading non-profit college suicide-prevention charity, in association with mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, to launch "Half of Us," a campaign to reduce the student suicide rate, fight the stigma of mental health on college campuses and connect students and their friends to the resources and help they need.

Kennedy-Ramstad’s Mental Health Parity Bill Gets Support From Speaker Pelosi and House Leaders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today,Congressmen Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) and Jim Ramstad (R-MN) were joined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Leaders and over a dozen House colleagues in the shadow of the Capitol to rally support for the “The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act”(H.R.1424). The bill would improve the overall health of all Americans by granting greater access to mental health and addiction treatment and prohibiting health insurers from placing discriminatory restrictions on treatment. The legislation, which was introduced by Kennedy and Ramstad on March 7, 2007, is cosponsored by a bipartisan majority of 265 Members of Congress. Click here to read the entire press release.

Mental Health Parity Legislation–Passed Both Chambers

Update—The Mental Health Parity Legislation in Colorado, SB07-036, has passed out of both chambers!  CBHC appreciates all of you who called, emailed and wrote letters to legislators and stakeholder groups.  This legislation will add the following to the list of behavioral disorders that must be covered by a health plan:

 

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Drug and Alcohol Disorders
  • Dysthymia
  • Cyclothymia
  • Social Phobia
  • Agoraphobia with Panic Disorder
  • General Anxiety Disorder
  • Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa to the extent that they are treated in outpatient, inpatient or day treatment
