To address this alarming statistic, we need to learn more about the causes of premature death, monitor the health status of those we serve, and increase collaborations with general healthcare. National Council member organizations understand the enormity of the problem and are leading the way in developing solutions. New law requires insurance carriers to cover mental health, but some worry it will increase premiums

In a time when Colorado officials are working to lower health-care costs, a mandate on insurance companies to include mental illness in coverage seems paradoxical. But advocates say the law will save businesses, government and society millions of dollars in training, turnover and physical health-care costs.
